Winter Field Day Association (WFDA) is a dedicated group of Amateur Radio Operators who believe that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some additional unique operational concerns.
Purpose: To foster Ham camaraderie, field operation, emergency operating preparedness, and just plain on the air, outdoor fun in the midst of winter for American, Canadian, and DX Hams. Don’t let those winter doldrums keep you locked up in the house… get out and play some radio!!
When: Winter Field Day runs for 24 hours during the last full weekend in January each year from 1900 UTC (2pm EST) Saturday to 1900 UTC (2pm EST) Sunday. For 2020 the dates are January 25th and 26th. Station set-up may commence no earlier than 1900 UTC (2pm EST) on the Friday before. Station setup may consume no more than 12 hours total. How & when you schedule/spend those 12 hours is up to you.

The CX is a no-pressure contest celebrating the older commercial and Home Brew equipment that was the pride and joy of ham shacks many decades ago. The object is to encourage restoration, operation and enjoyment of this older Classic equipment.
You need not operate a Classic rig to participate in the CX. You may use any rig in the contest although new gear is a distinct scoring disadvantage as your multipliers are directly related to the age of the equipment you use! However, you can still work the “great ones” with modern equipment.
There are two (2) entry categories per mode: ►Three or fewer receiver-transmitter pairs ►Four or more receiver-transmitter pairs.
Each CX event has bonus points. Details in the Bonus section!
There will be CX recognition for high scores in AM, SSB, and CW as well as overall.

This 24-hour event is not a contest; rather it is a day dedicated to celebrating our CW heritage. Participants are encouraged to get on the air and simply make enjoyable, conversational CW QSOs. The use of straight keys or bugs to send CW is preferred. There are no points scored and all who participate are winners.
Straight Key Night is held every January 1 from 0000 UTC through 2359 UTC.Bands:All authorized Amateur frequencies, but activity has traditionally been centered on the HF bands.
During the Sunday night net on the Keystone West Digital Net we had a guest speaker on from Texas ( N8IQT – Doug ) who had a lot of good info about the Fusion/WiresX system. One comment was on room ( 21493 ) the MnWis Room there will be a New Years net on around the world starting on the 31st. The MnWis room he said has a lot of knowledgeable hams who are glad to help out with any of your questions about the Yaesu Fusion system and more.
Tnx The Tech Team Happy New Year
The TS-2000 remote station is now on RemoteHams but still can be operated using TightVnc. With RemoteHams there is no need to use Skype for the audio link and RemoteHams can be downloaded on your Android phone or tablet. The service is free for computer use but there is a one time fee of $10.00 for the phone App. There will be a demo at the club in the beginning of January 2020 but in the mean time you can download RemoteHams Client on your computer to give it a try. We have to install a new hard drive in the TS-2000 computer between the holidays but the Greene County remote is still running under WA3VXJ call sign. Once you get the Client software running and search W3KWH or WA3VXJ and ask permission to use remote comes on your screen we will go into the software and give you permission. No need to take your laptop with you on a trip because the cell phone APP works great.
From all your friends at the Steel City Club. Hopefully the boxes are full of new radios.
