Chris Grimm K3PQ is our VE Testing examiner contact person.  People interesting in becoming an amateur radio operator or planning to upgrade their license should get in touch with Chris at the email/phone below.   The testing sessions will be held on the Wednesday after the Steel City Business meeting at 7:00 PM at the Steel City club house. {DIRECTIONS HEREPreregistration is highly recommend and will have priority, but walk-in’s will be allowed if space is available. Please read the section below “What To Bring”

First-Time Exam Applicants Must Obtain FCC Registration Number Before Taking Exam Beginning May 20, 2021, all amateur examination applicants will be required to provide an FCC Registration Number (FRN) to the Volunteer Examiners (VEs) before taking an amateur exam. PREREGISTRATION STRONG RECOMMEND – WALK-IN’S ALLOWED
To make sure we have enough testing materials on hand, and that you don’t have to wait for us to get ready we are highly recommending that people interested taking the exam preregister.

EXAM FEES:
To take your Amateur Radio License the VEC will charge you $15 payable by check or money order. For new license the FCC will charge you a fee of $35 for a 10 year long license. Which is paid directly to the FCC via there website.  They will email you the payment link via your email. STUDENTS: Under the age of 18 the VEC examine fee is only $5 and the ARRL will reimburse you the $35 fee. UPGRADES: The is no $35 FCC license fee to upgrade your license.

What to Bring:

** Bring and wear a mask for 2021
1.  A legal photo ID (driver’s license, passport)
2.  If no photo ID is available, two forms of identification:
    a.  state issue photo id card
    b. birth certificate (must have the appropriate seal)
    c. social security card
    d. library card
    e. utility bill, bank statement
3.  Students/minors may bring any school ID, minor’s work permit, report card
4.  FCC issued Federal Registration Number (FRN) Click here for how to get an FRN
5.  If applicable a photocopy of your current Amateur Radio
license.
6.  Two number two pencils with erasers and a pen.
7.  A calculator with the memory erased and formulas cleared are allowed.
8.  Bring a check, a money order or cash to cover the exam session fee. Check the ARRL VEC’s current exam fees. {NOTE! Student under age 18 see the reduce fees}
9. Those requiring ADA accommodation must contact the VE Team two week in advance with a doctor’s statement describing the disability and necessary accommodation.
