Update: Tonight Business Meeting

Hello Members,
Tonight’s business meeting is strictly a home zoom meeting.  I will not be at the club house nor will be supporting anyone going to the club house. If you cant or wont do a zoom call please meet up with a fellow club member and see if you can go to their house.  Or use the phone in option that is at the bottom of that email. The driveway is still covered in snow and there not a lot of parking since the parking lot has a lot of big piles of snow on it.

By now all members and new members should have received and email with a zoom link in it.  If you have not gotten the link please email  at n3lrg {at} w3kwh {dit} com.  If you are sponsoring a new member please make sure they got the link to the meeting.  We should have several new member readings tonight.

Again I will be starting the zoom call at 7:45 to let people get settle so that we can start promptly at 8:00 PM.  We have a lot to cover for the up coming 2022 year!

I am very sorry to report the loss of Jack KA3HPM (Captain Jack)
Jack passed away last evening after a fight with cancer. No word on arrangements at this time.  Captain was a fixture in the Pittsburgh amateur radio arena. I am sure I am going to miss a few things but Jack was:
– President of the Breeze Shooters
– ARRL QSL card checker
– He was an OO (ARRL Official Observer program)
– Long time VE involved and helped MANY people get their amateur radio license
– Jask was one of the founding hams involved with the amateur radio station on the Requin

As for Skyview:
– Jack was a past Skyview president and was on the Skyview board
– QSL manager for Skyview. Over the years jack has sent out literally thousands of QSL cards for K3MJW, WX3SKY, W3GH, K2M 13 Colonies and MUCH more
– Jack was an elmer for many new hams at the clubhouse
– Often Jack would give new hams equipment to help get them started

Winter Field Day – Going to work it?

Hello Members,

Are you planning to work Winter Field Day?  This is a good contest to do as your first contest since it tends to be pretty laid back. Give a listen then try working a couple of people.  This will help you get ready for the big field day this June!

January 29/30, 2022

Winter Field Day Association (WFDA) is a dedicated group of Amateur Radio Operators who believe that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some additional unique operational concerns.

We believe as do those entities of ARRL Organizations like ARES & RACES that maintaining your operational skills should not be limited to fair weather scenarios. The addition of Winter Field Day will enhance those already important skills of those that who generously volunteer their time and equipment to these organizations. This is why WFD is open to all licensed amateur radio operators worldwide.

Steel City is asking for a small group of operators to help operate this contest at the SCARC club house.  I know in the past Bobbie would operate this contest for us and do very well. Let light up the VHF band this year in Bobby memory!
