The Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall (ACFL&MH) has served Carnegie and surrounding communities the “beacon on the hill” since 1901. The Library & Music Hall was Andrew Carnegie’s legacy gift to the town that incorporated to take his name in 1894. Though he funded 2,500 libraries around the world, the industrialist-turned-philanthropist endowed only five libraries. The ACFL&MH is proudly one of them.

It is that time of the year for the big April – Steel City Business Meeting to be held at the Steel City Clubhouse on April 19th at 8:00 PM. The social part of the meeting will begin at 7:00 PM with the business meeting starting promptly at 8:00 PM. Bring your access card along for the yearly card check, and we will go over remote access for 2022.
Also on the agenda is the upcoming summer plans for the club house. The Carnegie Library special event station W3C and the onsite visit of operating at the library. The latest information on the Lewis & Clark special event scheduled for June 4-19th. And announcing our big plans for the upcoming Field Day 2022 on June 25 & 26th.
See you all at the club house….
Attention: Steel City members we have been ask to participate in this drill on Saturday April 2nd. As you can see below we will not know what is needed before the morning of the event. Our club station does quite well on the 60m band and maybe Mike or Bob can give us a refresher course on how to handle traffic some Wednesday night social meeting.
I made the announcement on this morning’s ARES net (less than great band condx) but still wanted to get the word out to the WPA section ECs with spring SET exercise information.
We’re doing things differently this spring…the date will remain the same, the first Saturday in April, the 2nd and run times will remain the same with the following change- the exercise scenario will only be given out during the ARES net that morning. participating counties will have from 0930-1000 to get their response organised and the exercise will run from 1000-1230 hrs.
In addition to the standard FM radio operations there will be HF radiogram traffic and 60m testing. Our served agencies will only be the American Red Cross, National Weather Service and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
Best 73s and press on!

FCC $35 Amateur Application Fee
Effective Date Announced
The FCC released a Public Notice on March 23, 2022, stating that the amateur radio application fees, including those associated with Form 605 application filings, would become effective on April 19, 2022. The Federal Communications Commission’s authority to impose and collect fees is mandated by Congress.
The $35 application fee, when it becomes effective on April 19, will apply to new, modification (upgrade and sequential call sign change), renewal, and vanity call sign applications. The fee will be per application.
Administrative updates, such as a change of name, mailing or email address, will be exempt from fees.
VECs and Volunteer Examiner (VE) teams will not have to collect the $35 fee at exam sessions. Once the FCC application fee takes effect, new and upgrade applicants will pay the $15 exam session fee to the ARRL VE team as usual, and pay the $35 application fee directly to the FCC by using the CORES FRN Registration system (CORES – Login).
When the FCC receives the examination information from the VEC, it will email a link with payment instructions to each successful candidate who then will have
10 calendar days from the date of the email to pay. After the fee is paid and the FCC has processed an application, examinees will receive a second email from the FCC with a link to their official license. The link will be good for 30 days.

Sean, KC3SZH brought this to my attention this morning and I have to agree this would make a good club kit project. The cost of the antenna is $69.95 I think the club could cover the shipping for a group buy. This is an End Feed 10,15,20,40 meter band antenna good for POTA and SOTA work. It can handle up to 250 watts so full size rigs are usable with this antenna. We would order the kit and then assemble them up at the club. Drill out the holes, wining the coil, and a little bit of soldering. So if this would be your first kit time kit you would have the support and supervision of some of the club mentors.
If you interested please email me at n3lrg{at}w3kwh{dit}com the kit will cost you $69.95
