Indoor Work Party February 28, 2026

Looking for a little help this Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 9AM to 1PM.  There are a number of small projects to get handled on the big task list for the year and we could use some help.  We are planning to get started on scanning pictures and old documents for preservation before storing them.  Inventory of all club property needs completed.  Tool chest needs organized and moved along with the back room cleaned out prior to upcoming server equipment installation.  Any and all help is appreciated and hope to see you there.

February Meeting Location Change

Even though the driveway to the club is clear, the parking lot is another issue with limited parking available.  Therefore the February 2026 business meeting is being moved to the following location:

St. John Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave.  Carnegie, PA 15106

WA3VXJ was able to secure us a nice size room with a very adeqately sized parking lot.  Many thanks to Karl for getting us a centrally local point to use.   Meeting will be at the usual time at 7PM.  Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Winter Field Day Canceled

Due to the impending winter storm, we are canceling Winter Field Day at the clubhouse.  We do not want to place any member in harm’s way during this weather event.  The double digit snowfall prediction makes traveling too dangerous and uncessary to be out on the roads.  Thank you to everyone who signed up for the event.  There will be many more contests to come this year for us to enjoy!  Everyone stay safe and if any member is in need of assistance during this storm, please reach out to us.

POTA Weekend Raccoon Park

Kathy King (KA3VXM) has invited anyone from Steel City to join her at Raccoon State Park for a weekend of POTA activity.   In celebration of the Winter Support Your Park event through POTA, she has reserved Cabin #2 at Raccon Park for the weekend.  The event runs all weekend January 17-18, 2026 and she has invited anyone to stop by, get warm, have a little conversation or make some QSO’s.  Space may be available to stay overnight, but please confirm with her.  There may also be some pasta involved if I understood correctly.  Please contact KA3VXM for more information at 412-481-1149.

The PA QSO party has been a great success.  We accomplished this about 13:30 today with getting Clearfield County.  It has been a great event for both days.  Great radio conditions, wonderful food cooked up and great camaraderie for members.  I would like to thank all the members that participated here at the club to obtain this accomplishment.  It has ben a great team of volunteers that manned the helm until late last night and were back at it this morning.  We are all still operating so feel free to come up the hill and visit.  See you all Wednesday with the final counts.

How To Study CW

Mike (WA3PYU) has offered to have a class this week on how to study CW.  Additional topic for the night is a patch panel review for all those interested.   The class will be Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 19:00hrs at the clubhouse.  This is a very introductory session just to get more members involved in CW.  As we have these yearly contests, CW as well as digital are a great asset to the club for point scores.  Thanks to Mike for taking his time to offer this intro session.  If you have any questions reach out to WA3PYU.
