Tower Safety Talk & Demo

DATE NOW CONFIRM:

Saturday Sept 25th @ 1:00 PM

Steel City ARC will be hosting an Tower Safety talk & demo at our club house on Saturday Sept 25th @ 1:00 PM. Due to the importance of this subject we are opening this up to all radio operators in the Tri-State area. Please RSVP below so we can give them a head count.

South Hills Area Council of Governments {SHACOG} – Technical Rescue Team This team is designed to address incidents such as confined space rescue, rope rescue, high angle rescue, trench rescue and water rescue. In addition to having to meet minimum qualifications for membership, team members also undergo routine, continuous training in their specialties and are certified in each.   While they undergo their yearly training they are going to offer ham radio operators a training demo and talk on tower safety.

We have lost some hams due to tower climbing issues this will be a good way to learn  the proper and safe way of doing this.  Attendees will learn the following.

  • What equipment is needed for the climb
  • Electrical and RF safety measures
  • What is needed to prep the tower before the climb
  • Proper way to climb the tower
  • What the ground personal will need to know to support the climb
  • And what to do when thing go wrong

This is only going to be a demo and safety talk no ham radio operators will be allow to be on our towers, only the Technical Rescue Team will be allowed to climb.  Since this is a outside demo please bring an lawn chair to sit in during the demo.  There will  be refreshments at the club house for the attendees.

If your interested in attending this event please RSVP at:

Again we just want to know how many people are going to show up so we can give SHACOG and idea in case they want to break up into smaller groups.
