SHACOG Technical Rescue Demo & Talk
On Sept 25th the steel City ARC hosted the SHACOG Technical Rescue Team as they practice there yearly recertification on tower rescue. Dean from the team gave an excellent talk on how to prep for a tower climb, gear that is needed, what to do if an accident does happen, and finally what the ground personnel needs to know.

The mission has the primary goal of training students in designing, developing and operating a spacecraft. The LEDSAT team hopes to exploit the mission to investigate the performance of a technology based on LEDs for tracking satellites in Low-Earth Orbit.

Steel City ARC will be doing an Special Event Station W8O to celebrate our 80 years in ham radio. Check out our event page for more information. To get one of our certificates after working our W8O station just send an QSL card to our address.
W8O Zoom Training Session
SCARC MEMBERS ONLY
Hello Steel City Members, there will be a special Zoom meeting on Saturday Night at 8:00 PM. Look in your email for the Zoom meeting invite Saturday morning. We will be going over how we are going to operate from the club house, club remotes, and from your homes. Our special event station will run from Aug 8th though Aug 15th. The event will start immediately after the QCWA net on Sunday morning ~9:00 AM. Below is the tentative scheduled for operations.
Sunday – Aug 8th
- Club house only day
- Be at club house at 8:30 AM to start after QCWA net
- Frequencies will be 3.983 Mhz, TBA
- Be at Club house after 6:00 PM work though the Keystone Digital Net
Tuesday – Aug 10th – Net night
- Club House only day after 6:00 PM
- Work though the SCARC Tuesday night net.
- Frequencies: 3.983, TBA
Wednesday – Aug 11th – Social Night
- Club House only day after 6:00 PM
- Work though the Wednesday Social night
- Frequencies: 3.983, TBA
Sunday – Aug 15th – SCARC 80th Birthday Picnic
- Club House only day
- Operate from the club house before and after the party
- Frequencies: 3.983, TBA
- Special events ends after the Keystone Digital Net
On the “Club House only days” you will only be allowed to operate from the club house. All other day you will be allowed to operate from your homes.
KDKA & First Baseball Game
Aug 7, 1200Z-2359Z, KD3KA, Saxonburg, PA. – Butler County Amateur Radio Public Service Group. KDKA, Pittsburgh, PA is the longest continuously scheduled commercial broadcast radio station in the world and holds many “firsts” in radio history. The first radio broadcast of a professional baseball game was on KDKA on August 5, 1921, from Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. BCARPSG will celebrate this centennial milestone with a special event station from Roebling Park in Saxonburg, near the site of KDKA mediumwave and W8XK shortwave transmitters in the 1930’s. It is time to clean up the place before the picnic. We need some much needed work done at the club house. The weeds along the drive way need cut down and cleared out. Painting of the shed. Grass and Trim work around the building needs done. And the old club house needs clean up and organize before our guest show up.
