People interesting in becoming an amateur radio operator or planning to upgrade their license should get in touch with David WQ3T at the email below.   The testing sessions will be held on the Thursday at 7:00 PM. The day after the Steel City Business meeting  at the Steel City club house. {DIRECTIONS HERE

GETTING YOUR FRN NUMBER:
First-Time Exam Applicants Must Obtain “FCC Registration Number” and have an E-Mail Address Before Taking Exam  all amateur examination applicants will be required to provide an FCC Registration Number (FRN) to the Volunteer Examiners (VEs) before taking an amateur exam. This is necessary due to changes the FCC has made to its licensing system.

EXAM FEES:
Exam fee of $15 will be pay by Cash or Paypal. For cash please bring exactly $15 since we don’t carry cash to make change.  To pay by credit card via PayPal once at the club house we will provide you an link to Paypal. At the testing session you only need pay the $15 dollars, the FCC will email you a link directly to pay the FCC $35 dollar fee.  You can check the ARRL VEC’s  exam fees at this link.

STUDENTS:
Under the age of 18 the exam fee is only $5 and the ARRL will reimburse you the FCC $35 fee.  Check out the ARRL page for Students

UPGRADES: Just bring the $15 testing fee there is no FCC charge to upgrade your license.

What To Do Before The Testing Session:
Please register online with HamStudy.org this will speed up the test process.  If you haven’t we will give you access to a computer at the club so you can do it then.

What to Bring To The Testing Session:
1.  A legal photo ID (driver’s license, passport)
2.  If no photo ID is available, two forms of identification:
    a.  state issue photo id card
    b. birth certificate (must have the appropriate seal)
    c. social security card
    d. library card
    e. utility bill, bank statement
3.  Students/minors may bring any school ID, minor’s work permit, report card
4.  FCC issued Federal Registration Number (FRN) Click here for how to get an FRN
5.  If applicable a photocopy of your current Amateur Radio license.
6.  We will provide you an calculator for the testing session

8. Those requiring ADA accommodation must contact the VE Team at lease one week in advance with the disability and necessary accommodation needed. This is so we can  get ready for your needs and to make you have a pleasant session.
