Steel City Remote Instructions

*** NOTE Real VNC users: Scroll to the bottom of the page for using
RealVNC with the TightVNC server and the new URL for the remotes.

1. Download  the TightVNC  program. This is the remote desktop program that will let you see the remote 1 & 2 computer which let you control the radio and turn them on and off. You can find the TightVNC viewer at the address below… NOTE if you have RealVNC install you might want to goto “Add and Remove Programs” and delete it from your system

2. When installing TightVNC you will get to the screen to “CHOICE SETUP TYPE” now it is ok to just hit TYPICAL and install the whole package which is VNC viewer and service but to save space on your computer you can select CUSTOM and install only the viewer.

3. In the above choice if you selected custom then click on the TightVNC Server and click on ” Entire feature will be unavailable”   You will only need the server if you plan to access your own computer from out side the house

4 Now you are ready to start the TightVNC program. You will get the welcome screen that you see below this is how the sign on is now different.  Below are the address for both remotes NOTE! that the URL is different.

Address for Remote 1 – Kenwood TS-2000 —
Remote1.w3kwh.net  or w3kwh.net:5910 {Old}

Address for Remote 2 – Kenwood TS-590   —
Remote2.w3kwh.net  or w3kwh.net:5920 {Old}

5. NOTE THE NEW URLs:

We have set up a new url for the club.  W3KWH.NET will be use for access the club house computers.  The url W3KWH.COM will remain the Steel City website.  Make sure you use the correct url when access the remote. Also note to tell the difference between the two remotes from they are port number after the url.  Make sure you enter a colon and the either 5910 for remote 1 or 5920 for remote 2.

6. Now you should see the remote desktop and you should see the radio interface. The “CON” button next to the power button should be lite up in a yellow color if not click “CON” first.   When “CON” is yellow you can power on the radio with the “POWER” button. You are ready to operate the radio like you were up at the club house.

7. If you are only going to operate digital modes you will not need to start up Skype.  But if you want to hear and be able to talk on the radio you will have to start up Skype.   Skype stayed the same there if no differences on how Skype works with the remotes.  Note when search for the remote names in the Skype directory use the names listed below.  You know you have the correct one when when you see the pictures of the club house.

Remote 2 – Kenwood TS-590G Skype Name: W3KWH TS-590G

* NOTE!! Make sure the two about names have images of the club house.



For those still using RealVNC:

You can still use RealVNC to connect to the remotes.  You will just get an encrypted error message. If you click CONTINUE it will still let you connect to the remotes.  The only difference is that you will type in the url
